Map of Ireland
This rural coastal area is steeped in history lying halfway between Rossnowlagh -“ The Heavenly Cove “

Rossnowlagh

and Ballyshannon, the oldest town in Ireland, where the mighty Erne system meets the sea.
Erne system meets the sea

Long famous for it’s Salmon fishing, in the past it was a shipping port of some significance. Ballyshannon was created a borough by Royal Charter in 1613. Local Poet William Allingham referred to it in song as the “Friendly place, the kindly spot”.

creevy

Creevy is on the R231 to Rossnowlagh. Nearby is the Franciscan Friary, Centre of Peace & Reconciliation & La Verna House. The Franciscan order were first brought to Donegal by Nuala O’Donnell, a member of the O’Donnell Clan who were chieftains of Tirconnaill prior to the occupation of the country.

scenery
This region of Ireland is recognised as being the last outstanding unspoiled destination in Europe, the vast variety and quality of our scenery has given the countryside a reputation of which we are justly proud.

Creevy Shore Walk
This area provides a unique opportunity for visitors with various preferences to mix their holiday activities, enjoy a full social life and live in the lap of luxury. Top class walks, both short routes, e.g. the Creevy Shore Walk, a purpose built coastal footpath 10 miles in length running from Rossnowlagh through Creevy to the mouth of the Erne Estuary and convenient long distance walks such as the Blue Stack Way and Baile na Gaeltachta [the Gaeltacht Way].

On the Creevy Coastal walk are the ruins of Kilbarron Castle, home of Michael O’Cleary, and the Four Masters, a group of Franciscan lay brothers, who penned the Annals of the Four Masters, a most significant piece on history going back over the centuries.

Numerous archaeological and historic sites of significance abound in the locality, including the 6th Century church of St. Barron, kinsman of St. Colmcille, after which the parish of Kilbarron is named.

Wardtown Castle
Recently a prehistoric Sand cemetery dating back to 4000 BC was discovered adjacent to the Shore Walk. Nearby are the ruins of the Wardtown Castle, home of Speaker Connnolly of the House of Commons. Adjacent to that are the ruins of the Cistercian Abbey Assaroe,"Abbey of the Morning Star" and close by that, the restored corn mill, interpretative centre and tearooms, known as the Water Wheels.

Sea Angling
Experience Sea Angling at its best in the pure waters of the Atlantic Ocean aboard “An Duanai Mara “ a purpose built 33ft. Aqua Star Boat, powered by a 320-hp Cummins engine, licensed for twelve passengers and two crew, operating from Creevy Pier.

This unspoiled haven is unaffected by pollution, over fishing and climatic changes. The remote rugged coastline of Donegal is simply teeming with opportunities for the dedicated sea angler.

Creevy pier
Creevy pier is lined by beautiful rugged cliffs, rocky outlets and sea inlets and offers some of the finest sea angling in Europe and is relatively under fished.

tuna fishing in Donegal

In recent years great sport is provided by the tuna fishing in Donegal Bay, especially in the late summer and autumn. "An Duanai Mara" is also equipped to facilitate Deep sea scuba diving, and charter tours of the bay including trips to Inishmurray, 7th century monastic settlement, and to Sliabh League, the highest sea cliffs in Europe, both with it’s colonies of rare birds.

There is always time for a whale, or dolphin watching trip.
Donegal Bay provided shelter for the survivors of the Spanish Armada, when several ships sank in a storm off Streedagh Strand in nearby Sligo. Equally nowadays, that hospitality is alive and well and we still welcome visitors from near and far. .
